The unforgettable beauty of lavender
Occurs in both the earth
And in the colors of the sky.
An aromatic flower,
As well as part of the many changing
Shades of the daily heavens on high.
The creamy color of the sky--
Color of orchid dawn--
Is quickly there, and then is gone.
Light violet, lavender,
How unique is its special glow,
Colored in nature in light lilac,
Amethyst, and airy, purple indigo.

Lavender is so soothing, not just the color, but the fragrance to. Lavender and purple transferware paired here with a bird motif' theme creates a lush garden feel with a touch of whimsy.
I began by layering a Ralph Lauren lavender bed sheet and topped with a white lace tablecloth.
For my centerpiece I used a purple transferware lamp from my shop. I placed it on a cake stand to give a little added height and draped around it lavender and cream greenery garland from Decorators Friend, creamy off white rose garland, and a darling hand cut bird egg garland from Curious Goods by Janie D Mattern.
For my tea party placemats, I wanted some earthy elements and something with a lot of texture. I found these Pigeon nest pads at In Your Face Media1 for $1 a piece.
The texture of these pads blends and balances that of the bird nests on my inexpensive bird nest topped cookie cloche's I made using miniature trifle bowls and hand stamped ribbon from A Little Scrappy.
Other bird related elements were added to the table. Beside each setting I placed a tea light with four birds perched around the sides and filled with lavender pip berries to add a punch of color.
At each place setting I used adorable teapot themed demi spoons, forks and knives. Aren't they adorable? These come in sets from Home and Teatime Elegance, a beautiful Ebay store full of tea related items.
I thought the demi spoons, forks and knives would make cute party favors to, placed in some hand stamped muslin bags from A Little Scrappy.
I love layering, as you all know that follow me regularly. I love lots of texture in my tablescapes.
I tripled napkins using purple, sheer organza from Always Elegant, some lavender eyelet napkins and vintage white lace trimmed napkins that my Mom gave me. Each time I use the white lace (which is often) I am reminded of the many parties, luncheons and dinners my Mom hosted when I was little. I can still see these same ones at the table in our dining room! My napkin rings are transferware in the Tonquin pattern by Royal Staffordshire.
For fun I placed these faux chocolates from Donna Pitkoff studios on a small Charlotte transferware plate. These look amazing real! I've never seen any faux food with a more realistic look and touch than these. Donna sculpts these delicacies by hand!
Mhia from Mel Mellis Sweet Treats sent me these beautifully packaged cookies for the tea.
The dainty tea cookies were served in an oblong, ceramic bird tray from Decorators Friend. I lined it with one of the lace napkins from Mom and laid out little rows of each of the cookies.
We had several varities, including Lavender Infused Sugar Cookies and Alfajores (Dulce de Lech and Coconut)
Mhia from Mel Mellis' Sweet Treats has kindly offered a $12 gift certificate to her shop to a Nancy's Daily Dish reader.
To enter The Cookie Giveaway please leave a comment for one entry, and for another entry visit Mel Mellis's Sweet Treats and let me know what kind of cookies you'd get with your gift certificate.

ReplyDeleteDear Nancy, I just came by again, thinking that I hadn't seen this post. I quickly realized that I had BUT I am in love all over again. Lavender is my FAVORITE color! I love the poem at the beginning. It describes why I absolutely adore November and March - not only is the sky and mist like this, but, also, the buds on the trees are purple. There is a purple and brown mist everywhere.
