My sister teases me because I have a collection of vintage dog figurines and paintings, though I don't have a 'real' dog. I have several small, vintage dog figurines, mostly Lefton and a few Royal Doulton that I display in my office/sitting room on tables topped with antique Spode transferware meat drainers. I found two more little dogs to add to my collection this week.
Below is the table to the left of the sofa
And these little guys are on the table to the right of the sofa
Displaying like items in a grouping makes a big impact. Did you know that if you have three or more of anything it is a collection?
I have a few other dog related items in this room too.
Hanging above each of the side tables are two oil paintings of dogs. One is a Yorkshire terrier that reminds us of our little Yorkie, Penelope, which we gave to Shawn's sister when we moved to Colorado a few years ago. I have to admit our Penelley (I have nicknames for dogs too) wasn't groomed to perfection like the one in the painting but she is still just as cute!
Directly over the sofa is a painting my Mom did for me about 10 years ago. On either side of the painting I have two wall shelves which look like swagged ribbons. Each shelf holds another dog figurine with a Midwinter red transferware plate hanging behind.

Your room is stunning. I love all of your dog figurines and paintings. They are displayed so beautifully. I always love to see the way you use your beautiful transferware in such pretty and unusual ways. Everything is so pretty. Thanks so much for linking to TTT. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteNancy,
ReplyDeleteWe enjoy many of the same things! I adore everything I see on your blog! I've been thinking of getting a small dog, but decided best to keep things simple. I think a ceramic doggy would suit me just fine.

It was wonderful that you took the time to stop in for tea last week. The teal is such a wonderful colour and you have so many great pieces in your collection! We have just lost of our sweet dogs last month and I miss him. His companion is still healthy and lively and so we cherish her even more. Seeing your canine collection has inspired me to look for a china dog to remember our Jazz by. Love your sitting. I am still in catch up mode from my trip but tea is being served. Hope you can join the fun!
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed week.
Pam
I think you have this collection because you secretly want the real thing! At least that's what I tell my husband when I bring home a doggy figurine. He doesn't want a real one, so I have to settle for fake ones! Your collection is really lovely, especially paired with all of your pretty red transferware!
