Shabby Roses Cottage Tea Tablescape & 3 GIVEAWAYS!

When Kalyn and Ashton were little they had the prettiest garden room.  It was one of my favorite rooms ever.  My Mom painted the ceiling with clouds. I installed white picket fencing around the room with faux climbing roses, foxgloves, poppy's and other flowers.  In front of their bedroom window, which had English ivy growing on the outside, we had an antique wicker canopied daybed.  It ran lengthwise in front of the window and was piled with loads of pillows, silk wisteria on the canopy and climbing roses up the bed posts.  It looked like an arbor with a big bench below.  The highlight of the room was a rock pathway carved throughout the carpet to look like a winding road.  Where the path diverged I had a small street sign painted which read 'Ashton Avenue' and 'Kalyn Court' indicating the names of the little paths/roads.  It was so sweet.   I used to just go sit in that room imagining I was still a little girl, gazing up to the painted sky.
As my little girls grew, they decided they wanted something different, so away went the cottagey, garden look and in came the fun and funky look with bright colors and a retro/contemporary feel...stylish but not the same Shabby cottage garden feel.  I miss that room and all the frilly, flowery, shabby, girly things that were in it.  I wish I had pictures to share ;-(

I had a chance to create a table with a similar theme and it brought back so many memories.  Kalyn and Ashton actually did alot of work on this table and put a lot of it together.  They both said it's one of their favorites....hmmm...maybe I can re-convert them into wanting this feel in their room!
And Trevor, as you will soon see, had no problem partaking of the treats.  He's always up to something funny, or weird, or both.  Usually both.

My tablescape begins with these quilted chair pads from Patchwork Trails.  I fully intended to use these on the chairs, and even started to.  Kalyn sweetly tied each one in place for me...but then...inspiration hit and I decided these were the perfect thing to tie the entire table (top) together, so they became place mats for my cottage table.
These are not only absolutely gorgeous and so well made, but they serve as little pads to take on the go...to a ball game for use on those hard metal bleachers.  They roll up and can be tied with the ties on the ends.  The backs are a pretty light blue denim.   I love the mix of fabrics and colors.

The girls and I set the table at the bird cage dining table I recently made while the boys and Shawn worked around the warehouse and kept trying to snatch up the cookies.  I was so honored, and so flattered that my table was featured at 5 other blogs!  It will be for sale soon.

I wanted to use transferware at my cottage table so I chose two plates by two different English potters with a roses motif.  I mixed and matched my cups using all different florals.  Some of the transferware is more red than pink, and vice-versa so I tried to stay with the more pink tones.
I layered dinner and salad plates in two patterns, Swinnerton's Kent plates:

and Chantilly Rose Lace, both available in my English Transferware shop.

My next door neighbor had these pale pink damask napkins in her garage sale and the vintage white linen with pink embroidery were purchased online.

At this setting, and around the table I placed handmade lace roses from The Golden Turtle.  I also used one of the hand made lace doilies from this shop and served these gorgeous tile cookies from Le Chic Bakery Boutique

Aren't these cookies beautifully packaged?   Each one has a different tea themed design...teapot, coffeepot, tea cup, etc.

My centerpiece was made using a wreath at the base from Willow Creek Flowers
I made a tiered plate stand with a little frosted aqua blue glass thing-a-ma-jing (don't know what it is) I found at GW.   I layered the lace doilies over transferware plates, added rose moulded sugar cubes and a rose shaped cupcake on top.
Somebody's wants that cupcake....
and thinks he's so funny he'll actually get it

And, speaking of sugar cubes...are these not the prettiest, daintiest, most perfect little sugar cubes?  These also come from LeChicBakeryBoutique.  These are made by hand in an array of colors and shapes.  Some are even flavored.  I got some orange ones with a spiced orange flavor and cannot wait to try them.   The shop owner knew I was using these in a tea table setting and also sent these cinnamon sticks, dipped in a thin pink coating with rose shaped sugar cubes on the end and tied with ribbon.  How adorable and how nice to stir into a cup of tea, or even coffee.  Wouldn't these be wonderful for your next tea party? Cinnamon flavored coffee is my fave!

Above, the embroidered doily is also from The Golden Turtle and below, my gold demi tea spoons are from
Home and Tea Time Elegance.

For height at my table, and in place of candles and just because they are soooo gorgeous and an unusual and interesting touch to my table I put these hand made lamp shades on some of my lamps.  They are so pretty and so perfect!  Susan has a gorgeous shop of vintage, Shabby Chic-ish items and makes custom lamp shades called My Shabby Rose Cottage.

More cookies from LeChicBakeryBoutique.  They are chocolate coated with walnuts on one side and the other side features a bird...how pretty...which way do I serve?

My little trike filled with dried roses and lacey ferns is another arrangement from Willow Creek Flowers.

And, my shabby chic-ey, kinda freaky kid takes the cake, er, uh I mean cup cake.
(personal note to Trev...I tink).

Ok...have I, do I, use way too many pictures in my posts?  I hope not, but I apologize in advance if I do!
Now for the winner of the cookie giveaway to Mel Mellis's Sweet Treats....congratulations to Martha at Martha's Favorites.  I have sent an email to you to let you know.  Just send me your contact info to pass along to Mhia!

I apologize up front that this message is a "cut and paste" message to all the sorority sisters because I wanted at least to become a follower of all of you and take a moment to say hello. For those who may not know my youngest son was killed last week and we buried him on Tuesday. I had started my project before that tragic event and am not finished but I did post what I've done on it so far. If you have visited me already I thank you and if not I invite you. I am just not quite at the point of being able to think of something to say individually at this time. I will soon hopefully be able to be active and visiting everyone. Love you already, Mollye

English Cottage Living Room - Before, Partly After & Still a Work in Progress

I am sorry for not posting more pictures of the progress we've made settling into this new (to us) home.   It seems life rushes by so fast and that at times, doing little things, even those that I love and enjoy, often get pushed aside and onto the back shelf of my mind where I tell myself, "I'll get to this later".  Well, it is later and though I don't have as much to share with you as I'd like, I'm going to at least share my favorite spot in our living room.  I promise to show the rest of the room soon but for now the opposite half of the living room has been occupied by my daughters boyfriend who has been staying with us for the past 7 or so weeks until his apartment is ready for him to move into, and so the couch is usually made up for him to sleep on!   Here is a photo of the current living room just as we found it, a small room just off the entry of the house with a nice marble and wood fireplace surround, hard wood floors, beautiful crown mouldi

Last week, Shawn and I popped into a couple of estate sales and I picked up over 100 pieces of Johnson Brother's The Friendly Village .  I think I may have to hang on to 12 of the dinner plates and use them this year at Thanksgiving but the rest of them, including this 48 piece service for 8, will be you know where. I don't know about you all, but I have had enough of Summer and I am down right ready for the cooler temperatures of Autumn.  I've been doing a lot of rearranging around the house….I'm in one of those zones where I've got a zillion projects going on, even if half of them are just in my mind that I'm contemplating!   We've also been moving kids out and around.  Three of them are out and the three still at home are moving or rearranging their rooms around.    Since I am yearning for Fall, haven't posted any tablescapes in a while and just got these Friendly Village pieces I decided to set the table with them.      Oh great, I

My English Country Mom Cave

Susan, at Between Naps on the Porch is hosting a Home Goods Mom Cave contest with four lucky winners.  Come on in to my little niche I've carved out of my house.  This is where I work, create, relax, read and chat with friends and family. This is one of my favorite spots in the house to read about one of my favorite subjects...English transferware or poetry, and drink tea.  I often start and end my day right here. Next to the chair is an antique dumbwaiter which holds some decorative items as well as lots of poetry books.  This is the view of the room from the wing back chair.  This cozy room serves as a small living room, although it's not uncommon to have 8 or 9 of the girls in here during family gatherings.  It's usually where we all wind up to have coffee and visit. . On either side of the sofa I display some of my vintage Canine figurines on Spode meat drainers. Above the sofa are some of my favorite paintings.  The one directly over the sofa my Mom pain

Decorating with Brown Transferware & $100 GIVEAWAY

Brown was introduced as a transferware color around 1829-30 and is the least expensive of colors to make. Therefore it is fairly common, so far as transferware goes, to find.  It is also one of the most collected colors and it is probably the most versatile of colors in my opinion.  Brown is neutral and looks good with any color scheme from pastels to rich jewel tones, but it is with the ushering in of Autumn that I see it popping up in home decor and vignettes the most.  Though, most of these rooms and vignettes are decorated with brown pieces year round, it just seems the perfect time to share them.  I may have to do another post because there are so, so many more equally beautiful spaces that have incorporated the use of displaying brown transferware  and I can't fit them all here. So, check these lovelies out and then stick around for the giveaway at the bottom of the post. This vignette just stole my heart the first time I saw it.  So many of us have vintage luggage

The Aesthetic Movement and Transferware

What is the Aesthetic Movement? The Aesthetic Movement refers to a period of time in the late 19 th century (1870-1900) which was a backlash to the formal Victorian years.  Artists and writers of the Aesthetic movement period maintained the belief that art should provide refined sensuous pleasure, rather than convey moral or sentimental messages.  They believed that art did not have any didactic purpose; it need only be beautiful.  Japanese art had a great influence on Aestheticism. Aesthetic interiors were often decorated with Japanese prints, screens, fans and other objects. An appreciation of the art of Japan is seen in the work of many Aesthetic artists and designers such as James McNeill Whistler and E.W. Godwin. photo credit Country Living The Aesthetes developed the cult of beauty, which they considered the basic factor in art. They ascertained that life should copy art and considered nature as crude and lacking in design

Decorating with Blue Transferware and a GIVEAWAY!

If you haven't already been over to Enchanted Home , you'll want to go over after you finish this post because the wonderful Tina, who authors the incredibly gorgeous blog,  has a great post up about decorating with dishes plus she's hosting a giveaway to my online shop, English Transferware !  Details at the end of the post! I know Tina loves blue and white (just look at her header and you'll know!) and has a collection of her own. In honor of Tina, I've decided to share some of my favorite images of rooms decorated with and often around blue transferware collections.  You can see more rooms decorated with blue transferware on my Pinterest board . To me, Charles Faudree is just about as synonymous with English transferware as he his with French Country Decorating...he seemed to always find a use for it in his incredibly detailed decorating schemes.  Isn't this bedroom charming? I love this next image from Decor Magazine.  Look how the blu
