Banana Slush

What's better than a tropical drink served icy and cold on a hot Summer's night?  Not too much, I say.  This slushy drink is, hands down, our families favorite.  My Mother in law served this at Shawn's and my wedding 24 years ago.  It has stood the test of time (and the test of the grand kids!).   We all like it so much that all of the Grandchildren have convinced Grandma Judy to make this each year for our Christmas Eve party.
It could also be called Pineapple Punch.   She makes a batch and freezes it in a large plastic bowl and then puts the whole thing in a punch bowl and pours 7-UP directly over it.  Let it sit a few minutes and then stir it up to mix the frozen concoction with the soda.

 Grandma Judy's Banana Slush
aka Pineapple Punch

5 ripe bananas, mashed
3 cups sugar (I think you could use less...we serve with Diet 7UP to cut down on sugar/sweetness)
1 - 46 oz. can unsweetened Pineapple Juice
1 - 12 oz can frozen orange juice
1 - 12 oz can frozen lemonade

Mix above ingredients in blender and pour into plastic container and freeze.

Note the transferware measuring cup! ;-)
Just before placing in the freezer:

And frozen:
For serving a crowd:  Remove entire chunk of frozen concoction and place in punch bowl.  Pour 1 liter 7-UP (or to taste) over top, allow to sit a few minutes, and then begin stirring/mashing to blend.  It's easy to blend and makes a wonderful frozen slush.

For individual servings you can scoop some into a glass and add about an equal amount of soda.  Garnish the glasses with a fresh pineapple wedge.  YUM!

I'm going to enjoy mine out on the back patio...

...and enjoy the fire Shawn's made to keep the bugs away

  13. Hi nancy, Wish I could pull up a chair next to the fire with you and have a slush! What is Friendly Friday? How is your summer going? I have a lot of projects I am working on and I am having a great time transforming spaces...lots of posts to come for sure. We are getting a babygrand piano for free from a friend who is moving to Florida. It is antique mahogany! I will have fun decorating around it, but I have to switch everything to accomodate it! You know how that is.
