Hats Over Head

The past few homes I've lived in, I have had high ceilings and created an arch of purple transferware platters over my bed that extends outside of the posters.  In this house, the bedroom has vaulted ceilings which also are high but they begin to angle upwards just a few inches below the top of my bed posts.   I did not have room to create a huge arch over and around the bed.  The walls are dark brown with a hint of aubergine to them so I decided that something light against the walls might be a fun change.

Straw or woven hats add warmth, texture, light (against my dark walls) and a little personality punch as well.

I would love to find an old hat rack to hang them from, but for now they are hanging by little nails hammered through the weave of the hats so as not to damage them.

Hats are inexpensive decor.  I had a some of mine already but picked up a couple more at Ross for less than $8 a piece.  I've seen some at other stores like T J Maxx as well.  Thrift stores would probably be a good choice for locating some as well.

Have any of you all ever decorated with hats?  How so?
I think I might need to find a little larger one to go on the right sid end...what do you think?

I've gathered some pics of hats on display that I want to share in a few days to give you even more ideas...but until then I'll be joining these lovely ladies and their lovely parties:

  7. Nancy, your bedroom looks comfy and cozy. I like the idea of hats above the bed. I used the idea in one of our guest rooms with a hat rack that holds 4 hats. In our master bedroom, I hung a vertical hat rack along one of the doors, and it too has hats. I also stacked hats on a small stool on the floor and used a grouping of "wig" stand heads to old more hats on top of a chest. Guess you can say I like hats! So your upcoming post showing more ideas will definitely interest me. Thanks!

  18. oh they look pretty!~I have cowboy hats hanging above our wide doorways in the family room. I hang them from drapery brackets. Hubby has so many cowboy hats that he wears and they were always on tabletops...so this looks decorative and its functional too.

  19. Love the hats and floral garden above your bed. The colors fit so well in your bedroom setting, which is lovely. Really like that the hats appear to be old and worn with love, and that the flowers are so varied in beautiful hues.

What a beautiful and peaceful bedroom.

  20. I do love these over your bed, Nancy. One of my straw hats has a very big brim, similar to the middle one in your picture. When it flops down it nearly covers my face... perfect for the beach if I forget to bring an umbrella!
