Vintage French Agriculture Plaques

Have you all seen these before?  I just recently discovered these vintage agricultural plaques which come from France.  These award plaques were presented as prizes at animal shows and agriculture events throughout France.   As far as I know, they are to this day still awarded as such.

I purchased my first French plaque a few months back and hung it over my stove in the kitchen. Some of you asked about it after seeing it in this pic from another post I did a few months back.

Since then, I bought a collection of them from a dealer in France and so added several more above the stove.  The remainder of the plaques are in my online shop.  I have another small lot coming from the same French dealer so if they sell well (one sold shortly after being listed) I think I'll continue to buy them from her when she comes across them and I can get enough to make shipping them over here worth while.    Anyway, they go perfect with my bull head planter which also is shown here, hanging over the stove.

I saw a few that had been converted into lamps so I played around and attached one to a lamp below…I didn't affix it permanently because I'm not sure if that's the lamp I'd want to keep it on but I think I'll play around with the idea some more and see what I come up with!

Wouldn't these be great in a Farmhouse style kitchen or family room, flanking a cow painting or figurine?

They are currently my new favorite antique…next to transferware of course.

  1. I have started collecting these since I moved to France. It is fun to find them as we travel around the country and see the ages and categories on some of them. You have some great colors. I love the look of the lamps made out of them, very clever!

  6. No wonder they're your favorite new antique to play with! They're so cool!!! I don't think I've ever seen them before, and even if I have, I'm sure I had no idea what exactly they were. I love the idea of affixing them (permanently or temporarily) to lamps and other items. What a neat way to dress them up and give them a really special look! I also like the way you have them displayed over the stove! So appropriately placed with the bull head right there!!!

Happy Fall to you and yours! Looks like you guys are having a grand time!
