Meet Balfour & Bentsen; Staffordshire Dogs

Hello. Allow us a moment to introduce ourselves. We’re Balfour and Bentsen. We have just arrived at Nancy’s Daily Dish in Tulsa, Oklahoma from the UK, hence our British names. We are twins, as you may have already surmised. We are accustomed to the finer things in life and have been fortunate enough to have lived in some beautiful homes. We’ve lived atop special carved wood brackets to guard our Masters beloved oil painting, we’ve looked over a collection of first edition antique books and, more times than either of us can recall, have been lovingly perched upon a mantel over a warm, glowing fire. We’ve spent many of our hundreds of (dog) years being cherished, admired and cared for. Sure, we have a few signs attesting to our age, but we have so much life and love left to share and even old as we may be, it seems our floral coats, fine golden collars and loving faces still catch passerby’s eye. We are currently looking for a permanent residence and feel, dare I say we know, that we will add just the touch of canine class that every home is in need of. If you have a special place for us and think we’d be a good fit in your loving abode, please visit Nancy’s website at www.nancysdailydish.net
She’ll take good care of us until we find our way home again.

A Little About Staffordshire Dogs

Named Staffordshire for the county in which they come from, where potteries produced these ceramic canines meant to set upon a mantel , the dogs are Cavalier King Charles spaniels named for the British monarch, Charles II (1630-1685) who was said to give these royal hounds the run of the castle. In the early 18th century, the figurines were made from china and hand-painted in a labor intensive process of repeated kiln firings. They reached the height of their popularity in the late 1800s and were mass produced in the 20th century.  There has been a resurgence in their popularity and today, they are highly sought by collectors and designers turning to the past for inspiration.    Modern reproductions, vintage reproductions and antiques
can be found in a vast price range from the hundreds to the thousands.
