Topiary Time ~

I just finished making some more topiaries with various transferware   items for my online store and thought I'd show some of them to you all.  I think I'm going to post a tutorial on making these but I am going to need someone to help take the photos.  I took pictures while I was making these but some or most of them didn't turn out very good.  Holding a hot glue in one hand while attempting to glue moss in place and holding a camera in the other hand while trying to take a photo of me trying to glue moss in place proved not to be the best idea I've ever had...and I am left with burn marks to prove it.  So, the tutorial will have to wait until I have someone at home to take pictures of the process.

This Mason's Vista teapot has a chip on the spout so I've camoflauged it by adding a birds nest and a cardinal.  I think this is one of my favorite topiaries that I've made thus far.  Kalyn and Ashton told me I should keep it.  I have to admit that I'm tempted and I kept envisioning it on my hutch that I posted about yesterday.

I have sold quite a few of these and had several custom orders since the last time I showed a group of them in this tablescape.  I had one order for a bunch of tea cup topiaries that were used in an Alice In Wonderland themed wedding.  I hope she sends me pictures.

When I posted this table below I mentioned that the plates were already sold and would be shipping out to my client soon after I'd shot the table.
She just purchased a couple of pieces and had me convert the pitcher she bought into a topiary.  It matches the bowl beside it.

I think these two make a cute couple

I've also added some new shapes to my topiaries.  I chose a square shape for this coffee pot to compliment the shape of the pot and the base, which are both slightly square with rounded corners.

For this cache' pot I used a lighter green moss and a fun wreath shape.  I really liked this one to.  This took a lot of moss to cover though.
So, what do you think?  Like, dislike?  What's your favorite shape?
I was thinking that I haven't done a giveaway in a while so I might need to do one for one of these.
 Hmmmm

Well, I was going to post a few more pics but I got a message from Google saying I've used all my space with a link to buy more space. I did.  I'm still not able to put any more photos on.  Has this happened to anyone else?

  4. You do such a great job with making topiaries! I struggle with it because I haven't got a patient bone in my body. I really wish I could get it together and settle down enough to do something cool like this!

  7. The transfer ware topiaries are beautiful! I'll look for them in your Etsy store. I haven't had any notice from Google, but it wouldn't surprise me. I tend to use lots of pics in many of my posts. Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay

  8. I love them. My favorite is the double ball one. I think you might have to wait 24 hours for your space to come available. I remember someone else complaining that it took a day.

  9. Love 'em, Nancy, and I think you should keep the red one with the bird/nest on the spout. It would look great with your red transferware in your hutch. I have topiaries of one kind or another all over the place.

  10. Very great idea with the moss and transferware. Yes, I maxed out my "free" picture storage too, but just five dollars of space is all I have ever needed since then.

  13. Nancy I would LOVE if you did a tutorial on the topiaries. I've always wanted to make one but wasn't sure just how. And putting them in the various dishes and pitchers is so creative. I like all the shapes but I guess I'm kinda a tradtionalist and still like the round. Also I just love the runner on your table. It looks like it might have matched the napkins from your St.Pats day table. Can I ask where you got them? They are just gorgeous!

    1. The runner in this photo is an antique piece, but the napkins from my St. Patrick's Day table that I used as placemats came from Tuesday Morning. I'd be happy to take a look here to see if they still have them. They were $20 for a package of four.

  14. They're all lovely, Nancy, but the teacups are my favorites... with either just one small topiary ball or with one larger on the bottom and a smaller on top. The one with the little bird is adorable! Just beautiful.

  15. Beautiful, Beautiful topiaries, Nancy. I love the little teacup ones the best. That set of dishes that you sold is just gorgeous, too! xo Diana

  16. Nancy: I have to admit that I cheated and copied your topiary design because I think they are so beautiful. I have a few old pitchers, some transferware, some not. I love how they came out but will look forward to your tutorial, because I'm sure I can always make them better. I am so clueless, I didn't know we had to pay for using pictures (guess I shouldn't say that so loud). So far I haven't. Is there a rule as to how many you can have in one post?..Happy Thursday..Judy

  18. I love them. What a great idea to do for mismatched or odd transferware pieces.

  19. what kinds of sticks did you use and do they go through the balls or are they glued? Doing this one for an Historic house for the holidays. Will look fabulous on a sideboard.

  20. Question about the sticks. What are they and how do you connect the moss balls? Are they stuck all the way through them and glued? I'm going to do this on a sideboard in an Historic Home this Christmas. I have been collecting the vessels. Just not sure about the sticks.
