Sage and Pink Tablescape & Pecan Crusted Pork Tenderloin

I was going to post this yesterday but I had a problem.  Sleep deprivation.  I did not sleep one wink the night before and all day yesterday I had the worst time trying to stay awake.  I think I might have fallen asleep sitting at my computer a couple of times.  I have this habit of keeping about 10 or more internet pages opened at once.  Seriously.  It drives everyone in my house bonkers, especially Shawn,  when they want to get on the computer and they have to close a bunch of stuff out.  I tell them I am multitasking.  I was so tired all day yesterday that I couldn't remember what I was doing half the time or I'd realize I was typing something meant for a post into an email.  I couldn't even single task, so I decided to call it quits for the day.

Now that I've had a good night's sleep I am ready to share my scape.
I pulled these plates out the other day to set the table with.  I love the sage green color.  It works with so many colors.   Originally I was going to pair them with blue, and most likely will do that at some point but with the lovely weather and it being Spring and all I suddenly decided on pink.

Sometimes, if not most times, when I put a table together I just start with the plates and then build around them.  I have always liked this pattern, Avondale.  I usually have pieces in blue, red/pink and green in my shop.   It is by J & G Meakin.

I've been wanting to use the burlap again since I used it last Fall.  I pulled it out, spread it over the table and then added a dressier curtain in an sage/olive jacquard that I scrunched up in the center, in place of a runner.  I hardly ever use a 'real' tablecloth but choose instead blankets, throws, drapes, fabric, clothing...yes clothing, etc.
Over that I laid out a pink lace vest that had been Kalyn's and then set a floral arrangement in the center.

The pink lace shows just enough.

We love candlelight so I added some sage green taper candles to the arrangement and filled used some pink thumbprint cordials for tealights.   They look very peach colored in every picture I took though.  I really need to learn to be a better picture taker!

I got this little lamb for $3 on clearance at Steinmart and wish now that I'd bought the two that were left.  Isn't it cute? I could start a collection of sheep.  I shouldn't have said that.  I'm thinking about how cute several would look grouped together beneath my sheep painting.  Stop it Nancy.

Some of my favorite glasses are thumbprint...we have some that we use as every day and I use my Cranberry flash occasion.  These work  so well with pink and red alike.  The cut glass goblets came from Tuesday Morning.  They were on clearance for about $3 a piece.

I love to mix things that are formal with the informal, casual with the dressy...so I chose these handled willow chargers to add a little bit of an earthy, casual look.

I think the napkins turned out nice.  I have a set of six of these vintage, rectangular shaped placemats/doilies that I wrapped around pink damask napkins and then sort of fan folded to really show off the lace.  I tied them with a pretty sage ribbon.  If you all like this, I can do a little post on how I folded them...it was very easy.

Ultimately they wound up placed at an angle above each setting.

I played around with the centerpiece at one point and swapped out the flowers for the grapevine balls.  This is more casual but I liked it also.  What do you think?

For dinner, we made one of our favorite meals.  It is a heart healthy dish called Pecan Crusted Pork Tenderloin with Blackberry Vinaigrette.   I serve it with Spinach salad (the same vinaigrette that goes over the pork makes a delicious salad dressing), rice pilaf and croissants with a honey butter glaze.  This time I used the thin cut, boneless pork chops and it was every bit as good as the tenderloin I've always used in the past.  I'm sure it would be good on chicken as well.  Ashton requests this quite often;  it's one of her all time favorites.

And she helped prepare it as well.  It's sort of a non official rule here with the kids that "we'll make what you want but you help prepare it".  They never complain and it's a good way for them to learn how to cook and a good way to for me to spend time with them individually.

If you want the recipe for this you can find it HERE.  It is the first recipe and first tablescape I'd ever posted.
Each time we have it we are all left asking one another why we don't have it more often.  I really don't know why.  It's easy to make, it's super good, and it's good for you!

  6. Beautiful dishes, Nancy! I love the pattern. Cute little lamb. I've done that often, where I've wished I bought what was left of something, especially when it's been on clearance. Of course, it's gone when I go back! That meal looks so delicious. We had a pork tenderloin roast last night. I don't make pork too often, but I was wanting something out of our routine. I really need to learn to do some sauces; while it wasn't overcooked, just the fact that it had no sauce or condiment {for lack of a better word}, it seemed a bit dry to me.

Please do post how your fixed the napkins. they are so pretty. I love your tablescapes especially because you eat off them too..Happy Thursday..Judy.. Sweet little lamb. That would be a good collection to start.

  21. I love these dishes. Some greens just 'pop'. Your tablescape is beautiful once again. Thank you Nancy for dropping by to identify the little egg-cup I bought at a shop for $4.00. I love it and now that I know what it is I can hopefully find more. I am just back from an auction and although I missed out on a few beautiful dishes I did end up with a box full of tea-cups. I have had a chance now to sit down and really look at them and I am happy with many of them. Whole box cost me $7.00. I'll post some of them soon. Love you blog. Hugs, Deb

English Cottage Living Room - Before, Partly After & Still a Work in Progress

I am sorry for not posting more pictures of the progress we've made settling into this new (to us) home.   It seems life rushes by so fast and that at times, doing little things, even those that I love and enjoy, often get pushed aside and onto the back shelf of my mind where I tell myself, "I'll get to this later".  Well, it is later and though I don't have as much to share with you as I'd like, I'm going to at least share my favorite spot in our living room.  I promise to show the rest of the room soon but for now the opposite half of the living room has been occupied by my daughters boyfriend who has been staying with us for the past 7 or so weeks until his apartment is ready for him to move into, and so the couch is usually made up for him to sleep on!   Here is a photo of the current living room just as we found it, a small room just off the entry of the house with a nice marble and wood fireplace surround, hard wood floors, beautiful crown mouldi

The History of Johnson Brothers and The Friendly Village Tablescape

Last week, Shawn and I popped into a couple of estate sales and I picked up over 100 pieces of Johnson Brother's The Friendly Village .  I think I may have to hang on to 12 of the dinner plates and use them this year at Thanksgiving but the rest of them, including this 48 piece service for 8, will be you know where. I don't know about you all, but I have had enough of Summer and I am down right ready for the cooler temperatures of Autumn.  I've been doing a lot of rearranging around the house….I'm in one of those zones where I've got a zillion projects going on, even if half of them are just in my mind that I'm contemplating!   We've also been moving kids out and around.  Three of them are out and the three still at home are moving or rearranging their rooms around.    Since I am yearning for Fall, haven't posted any tablescapes in a while and just got these Friendly Village pieces I decided to set the table with them.      Oh great, I

My English Country Mom Cave

Susan, at Between Naps on the Porch is hosting a Home Goods Mom Cave contest with four lucky winners.  Come on in to my little niche I've carved out of my house.  This is where I work, create, relax, read and chat with friends and family. This is one of my favorite spots in the house to read about one of my favorite subjects...English transferware or poetry, and drink tea.  I often start and end my day right here. Next to the chair is an antique dumbwaiter which holds some decorative items as well as lots of poetry books.  This is the view of the room from the wing back chair.  This cozy room serves as a small living room, although it's not uncommon to have 8 or 9 of the girls in here during family gatherings.  It's usually where we all wind up to have coffee and visit. . On either side of the sofa I display some of my vintage Canine figurines on Spode meat drainers. Above the sofa are some of my favorite paintings.  The one directly over the sofa my Mom pain

Decorating with Brown Transferware & $100 GIVEAWAY

Brown was introduced as a transferware color around 1829-30 and is the least expensive of colors to make. Therefore it is fairly common, so far as transferware goes, to find.  It is also one of the most collected colors and it is probably the most versatile of colors in my opinion.  Brown is neutral and looks good with any color scheme from pastels to rich jewel tones, but it is with the ushering in of Autumn that I see it popping up in home decor and vignettes the most.  Though, most of these rooms and vignettes are decorated with brown pieces year round, it just seems the perfect time to share them.  I may have to do another post because there are so, so many more equally beautiful spaces that have incorporated the use of displaying brown transferware  and I can't fit them all here. So, check these lovelies out and then stick around for the giveaway at the bottom of the post. This vignette just stole my heart the first time I saw it.  So many of us have vintage luggage

The Aesthetic Movement and Transferware

What is the Aesthetic Movement? The Aesthetic Movement refers to a period of time in the late 19 th century (1870-1900) which was a backlash to the formal Victorian years.  Artists and writers of the Aesthetic movement period maintained the belief that art should provide refined sensuous pleasure, rather than convey moral or sentimental messages.  They believed that art did not have any didactic purpose; it need only be beautiful.  Japanese art had a great influence on Aestheticism. Aesthetic interiors were often decorated with Japanese prints, screens, fans and other objects. An appreciation of the art of Japan is seen in the work of many Aesthetic artists and designers such as James McNeill Whistler and E.W. Godwin. photo credit Country Living The Aesthetes developed the cult of beauty, which they considered the basic factor in art. They ascertained that life should copy art and considered nature as crude and lacking in design

Decorating with Blue Transferware and a GIVEAWAY!

If you haven't already been over to Enchanted Home , you'll want to go over after you finish this post because the wonderful Tina, who authors the incredibly gorgeous blog,  has a great post up about decorating with dishes plus she's hosting a giveaway to my online shop, English Transferware !  Details at the end of the post! I know Tina loves blue and white (just look at her header and you'll know!) and has a collection of her own. In honor of Tina, I've decided to share some of my favorite images of rooms decorated with and often around blue transferware collections.  You can see more rooms decorated with blue transferware on my Pinterest board . To me, Charles Faudree is just about as synonymous with English transferware as he his with French Country Decorating...he seemed to always find a use for it in his incredibly detailed decorating schemes.  Isn't this bedroom charming?
